At Protection Design, Inc. we incorporate the concept of Qualitative Risk Analysis in all Risk Assessments of an executive and his or her family. As described below, Qualitative Risk Analysis can determine if security is appropriate and if so, at what levels. The conducting of Risk Assessments is also effective when applied to crisis situations, planned events or other scenarios. Determining the potential risk to an event or a situation (an example might be a concert tour or Board of Directors meeting) can eliminate surprises and allow for contingency planning. Qualitative Risk Analysis Risk Analysis makes use of THREE interrelated elements: 1 THREATS: These are situations, circumstances or actions that are likely to cause harm. Examples of threat to a protected person might include kidnap, assault or even assassination. More likely examples include medical emergencies and embarrassment. In fact, these are the two highest probable threats. Threats are caused by factors outside of our control and therefore are difficult to change. |
2. VULNERABILITIES: They make an executive more prone to attack or make an attack more likely to succeed. For example, health problems would make medical emergencies more likely. Or perhaps the executive stops at the same coffee shop at the same time every day, making his behavior predictable, and thus vulnerable. 3. CONTROLS: These are the countermeasures for vulnerabilities. There are four types:
